VBODOBV [sounding videos]:
Rehearsal
I explore the lived reality of bodily experience in the landscape through art making. I use my body as a tool for direct exploration of the world around me, defining edges, filling spaces, and calling attention to natural phenomena.
Sound has recently become an important trigger for and component of my creative work. During the years of the COVID-19 pandemic, as family life became compressed and time distorted, I began to notice the sounds that populate my existence; chief among these is my son’s daily piano practice. Rehearsal is a response to this experience of repetitive listening: focusing energy and attention, anticipating mistakes, balancing emotional involvement with intellectual detachment, and coming to understand a musician’s own patterns of breath, variation, and hesitation. The overlapping images and recordings illustrate this accumulation of layers of sensory experience.
