Music for When You Have 20 Minutes to Kill and There are Some Parks Nearby
There are 4 speakers that are each hidden in a wooden box. Printed on the top of each of the boxes is a text that instructs the audience to not pay attention to the sounds within. When the box is opened, the speaker begins playing sounds of a different park, each of a different quality: an industrial park, a school playground, a park near a highway, and a national park. In each of the environments. The opener of each box gets to decide which park they exist in aurally and thus which new world they experience (whether consciously or not). More importantly, if an opener decides to open multiple boxes, they create a harmony of environments. In short, the opener decides which park or parks to kill 20 minutes in. How actively and how they decide to spend that time is up to them.
Logistically, the four boxes are each at eye level on a wooden peg in a square configuration. If opened, the speakers are pointed towards the center thus allowing the opener to "pan" the boxes by how they orient themselves in the square. As with the parks, they are not all at an equal loudness but if all the boxes are open, they all can be heard from certain points in the square.
